Towns were animated side-view screens, the world map was Ultima-like and dungeons had a fascinating mini-map-like view. Instead of first-person graphics like Wizardy or top-down like Ultima, it used various distinct views. One of the things I most enjoy about RPGs from the 70's and 80's is that "frontier" feeling, as no one had a blueprint on how to things, people just kept trying different things.ĭouglas Wood's Phantasie, is one of those frontier series, with a very unique approach.
